Hi everyone!
On Sunday, we celebrated Cage’s birthday with a party at Grandma Sue’s house. It was a Thomas the Tank Engine extravaganza!
For the start of the party, Cage kept pointing out the Thomas on his shirt to everyone. Auntie Felicia let him play with one of his gifts, a Thomas play tent. As more guests arrived, we had to put the tent away, but Cage discovered the big Thomas balloon and had a blast playing with it.
This year, Cage opened his own presents which was awesome. Last year, Dada had to open them all. He received so many nice things! Then we sang Happy Birthday and had some Thomas cake.
Thanks to all who were able to join us!
Here is a slideshow if the images I used to make the banner you can see in the background of some of the pictures. It shows how Cage has grown from 12-23 months.
Here is the album on flickr:
Today is Cage’s second birthday!
We had an amazing day that started with a trip to the doctor for his 2 year check up. He weighed 27 lbs 4 oz and was 34″ tall. The doctor was pleased with his progress, especially how he’s caught up with speech. He only had to get one shot, his flu vaccine, and the nurse distracted him with Thomas stickers so he didn’t even flinch or shed a tear. Afterwards, we went home and Cage and I went to get Mama a coffee then he took a nap.
When he woke up, we got our stuff together and headed to Natick for Birthday Apple Picking! It was a cool day, nice and crisp. We got on the train and headed into the orchard. The first stop was the Children’s play area. This year was great, Cage was old enough and could do most of the activities. He looked at the animals and played in the playground. He had a blast in the bouncy house, explored the maze and climbed the hay pyramid. Grandma Sue, Auntie Felicia and Elayna stopped by to play and to wish Cage a happy birthday.
Our final summer month has turned into a very busy one.
John & Cage went and had a nice visit with Jason & the triplets. They went to the beach and played in the sand. Cage couldn’t get enough of running up and down the shoreline. They had lunch together and when it was time to go home, Cage gave each of the girls hugs. So cute!
Then we went to the Patriots Training Camp. We are trying to make it a family tradition to go every year. This year was a little different, we got there late for the morning session and Cage wasn’t really into hanging around. There are a few pictures of Cage trying to hang out with another family, which is his new thing this year. The Patriots Experience, the fun stuff for kids which we did last year, didn’t open for another 20 minutes, so we went to the Wrentham outlets and then to Grandma Sue’s house to go swimming.
Our next little trip was to Rye, New Hampshire. John’s friends from high school Sean & Colin were spending the week there with their family, so we took a drive up and spent the day at the beach with them. We met their wives and kids who were from 6 months to 5 years old. At the beach, the water was surprisingly cold, so Cage didn’t really want to go in. So while Dad was catching up with his friends, Cage and I walked up the beach collecting rocks & shells. On our way back home, we decided it was too hot to go home so we drove to Grandma Sue’s house to use the pool. It was also helpful to get all the sand off us from the beach!
We went to visit Laurie, Joey, Tyler & Mia. It was a beautiful day, hot when the sun was out, but chilly when the sun hid behind some clouds. We tried to go swimming for a few minutes but the water was really cold. Cage & Tyler were playing together for most the afternoon while Mia spent it sleeping. Tyler would push Cage around in the wagon, then in stroller. They played with trucks and basketball too. It was so awesome seeing them interact now that they’re older. Joey cooked some burgers on the grill and we had a nice dinner before heading out.
We visited with Grandma Cheri & Great Grammy Gini. Cage had a great time playing with their new kitten. It was another nice day, so we spent some time on their deck and Cage had his first experience with an oak tree Pinocchio thing. He thought it was hilarious when we would put it on our noses. Uncle Christian stopped by on his way home from work to say hi. Then we went to see Mary to work on some wedding planning – yay!
On Monday, Grandpa Donny came by and had lunch with John & Cage at the Cheesecake Factory. Grandpa was impressed with Cage’s fork & spoon skills. After eating, they went to North Point but it was super hot so they didn’t stay too long.
On another note, Cage has been doing so well with his words. He is repeating everything and has new words every day. The other night he said Awesome and today he said Dance and Bike to name a few. He can do all the hand motions when we sing “Itsy, Bitsy Spider” He is really into playing with his cars & trucks, drawing and Play-doh. When we are outside, he’s always letting us know when he sees a car or bus. He has been so much fun and we love watching him learn every day.
On Sunday, John and I took Cage to the Discovery Museums in Acton. They have 2 houses, one is for the smaller kids like Cage and one is more Science oriented for the older kids.
The first room had trains, Cage had a lot of fun pushing them along the tracks. Next we played in the water room. There were a few other kids there, so Cage played with them. Splashing and playing with the ducks & boats. Upstairs there was a room with mirrors and magnet letters, a Jungle room, a Color room with a slide, a family Diner, and an Adventure room with blocks. While Cage was cooking us a meal in the diner, he decided to go sit in a booth with another family. They were very polite and let him play too. In the attic, there was a Nautical themed room. It had a row boat and steering wheel with a navigation room. Cage loved steering the boat!
After all that, we went outside and had some lunch and then went to the Science building. They had a big vortex that you could roll small balls in to watch them go around. Cage loved throwing the balls in and watching them go around.
Finally, we went back outside and explored a ship wreck and made some bubbles. We had such a great time. We’re looking forward to going back again!
